In this case study, Asankha Perera [1] , Software Architect and Product Manager of WSO2 ESB, describes using WSO2 ESB and WSO2 WSAS to overcome challenges faced during a legacy modernization effort in the health-care sector.

Our client, one of the largest Managed Care Organizations in the US, faced challenges exposing client medical records stored on their mainframe and DB2 and MSSQL systems in a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) environment. The solution presented by WSO2 that included the WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and the Web Services Application Server (WSAS) were selected over other leading, commercial vendor platforms, after a week long on-site evaluation that included a proof-of-concept scenario implementation. Since then, WSO2 has been working with the client on a development support agreement that introduced enhancements the client requested, and are currently moving towards a support production system deployment for multiple servers.
