Yup - at the very least the pagination links should never go beyond 1 line, and really never much beyond 5 or 10 individual page links.  My preference is the pattern that goes:

<< < 4 5 6 7 8 9 > >> (23 pages)

It would also be nice to be able to set the desired page size somewhere.
