Support J2ee container-based authentication
-------------------------------------------

                 Key: REGISTRY-460
                 URL: https://wso2.org/jira/browse/REGISTRY-460
             Project: WSO2 Registry
          Issue Type: New Feature
          Components: core, UI, userManager
            Reporter: Leif Johansson
            Assignee: Chathura Ekanayake
            Priority: Critical

In enterprise-scale deployment of wso2registry it is critical to be able to leverage existing authentication mechanisms and frameworks. The easiest way to achieve this is to make sure wso2registry can support container-based authentication. Solely relying on cardspace is not an acceptable solution in all circumstances. The deployment I'm looking at would involve Negotiate/SPNEGO authentication for resource access and SAML authentication for the administration interface both of which are implemented in the container. The current (1.1) codebase doesn't seem to support enough abstractions to allow container-based authentication to be implemented.

If at all possible it would be very nice to be able to use container-based authorization too but I realize this may involve much more work.
