Practical 'best practice' example's of how to edit schema/wsdl

preben's picture
Hi I need some guidance on how to ensure consistency between resources added to the registry in an development process where skema'er and wsdl'er changed. I am aware that you can edit resources directly through the web editor, but it will in most cases only cover simple changes. Normally editing resources are done in tools such as Eclipse, XML Spy or similar directly in the filesystem. What process is recommended? checkinclient? It would be nice with a use case that illustrates an advanced example of multiple simultaneous editors in an development process where schemas and WSDL are uploaded, changed and deleted. What about webdav support? Thanks Preben

Hi Preben, Yes, you can use the check-in client for this purpose. The web-based editor has minimal text editing support. However, the check-in client, introduced in our last major release, lacks some vital capabilities such as preserving resource metadata (including permissions). Several other issues have been fixed in the later 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 releases. Therefore, you will need to try this out in your environment and make sure that the current features satisfies your requirements. We are looking forward to fix these issues in the upcoming major release scheduled for March 2010. We are also hoping to add some example use-cases for this tool for the next release. We don't support webdav as yet. However, you can extend G-Reg with ease to support webdav if needed. Since this is not on our roadmap for future releases, as yet, I can't say for sure whether we'd be looking into adding support for webdav in the near future, even though I too personally like to have this feature included. Thanks, Senaka.
